It’s hard to believe that our 7 weeks in Medellín has already reached an end. We have spent our last week sleeping in, taking walks through the neighborhood, and going to all of our favorite restaurants one last time. And, of course, finishing our final Spanish classes!
Last night, we drank rum and coke at our favorite neighborhood ‘bar’ conveniently located right under our apartment. It has been run by Señor Gonzalo for over 50 years! He has been open every single evening and his shop is a gathering place for locals every night. You can see Gonzalo pictured below, the older fella on the right.

Tonight we have invited Alex’s teacher to join us at our favorite Argentinean steakhouse as a final thank you / celebration dinner.
Tomorrow morning, we take a flight to Leticia, Colombia which is situated on the Amazon River and shares a border with both Peru and Brazil. On Sunday morning, we start our 5-night, 6-day guided excursion into the Amazon rainforest! It’s our Christmas gift to ourselves 🙂 Our guides only speak Spanish, so it will also be a good test of my comprehension and hopefully take my ability to speak up another level.
I am super happy with the experience we had in Medellin and I will look back at it very fondly. But I am also super stoked to continue our travels and experience vastly different parts of the country!
Chao, Medellin!
